Ben Barnes in negotiations for lead role in SEVENTH SON
Though his first big tent-pole franchise is currently stalled out, it looks like THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA's Ben Barnes isn't sitting back when it comes to conjuring up a new role.
NARNIA's Prince Caspian, Ben Barnes, is now in negotiations to join Warner Bros. and Legendary Picture's SEVENTH SON, in a lead role that once looked to belong to up-and-comer Sam Claflin. The film will be adapted from Joseph Delaney's young adult book series "about a teen who learns about wizardry from a forbidding spook." The spook role is already set to be played by Jeff Bridges.
Barnes would play Tom in the 18th century-set film, to be helmed by Sergei Bodrov. The rest of the cast is so far rounded out by Julianne Moore (as the queen of evil) and Alicia Vikander (a young witch).
Delaney's series is called The Spook's Apprentice and currently consists of six books. The Barnes character, Tom, is much younger in the books, as the series kicks off when he is only 13. It look as if Warner and Legendary may have aged up the character a bit in order to avoid the obvious Harry Potter comparisons. The new film title is taken from the fact that Tom is the seventh son of a seventh son, which imbues him with his magical powers.
