Ben Stiller and Saturday Night Live veteran Akiva Schaffer are looking to team up on new science fiction comedy film, called NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH.

Ben Stiller was considering a remake of THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, but it looks like NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH could come first now that they're in talks with director Akiva Schaffer, known for his work in The Lonely Island and SNL. This would be Schaffer's sophomore directing effort, having helmed HOT ROD back in 2007. He's best known as part of the trio The Lonely Island, who's had viral video success with "Lazy Sunday" and a slew of other shorts.

Should the project move forward with Ben Stiller, LA Times' blog 24 Frames says that "he would play the lead character, an urbanite who gets more than he bargains for -- in the form of extraterrestrial activity -- when he moves to the suburbs and joins the neighborhood watch."

The latest script was finished by Seth Rogen and his writing partner, Evan Goldberg. This is familiar territory for Rogen, who voiced the extra terrestrial in the sci-fi comedy PAUL, which follows an alien that ends up on the run with a couple of comic convention super fans.

Shawn Levy, who directed NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM with Stiller, is producing the film.

This sounds like it could be a nice departure from Stiller's most recent comedy fare: LITTLE FOCKERS.
