The WOLFMAN himself is looking to make a career change. In advance of this week’s opening of THE WOLFMAN, star Benicio Del Toro has revealed that what he really wants to do is direct.

Actor Del Toro has already expanded his resume behind the camera, producing films such as CHE and WOLFMAN as of late. He even wrote and directed his own short, SUBMISSION, back in 1995. But Del Toro now thinks his expertise has expanded enough to allow him to succeed as a director. He told British magazine Shortlist, “I know much more about movies and acting than when I was 20. I do want to explore other things in the film world, (like) telling people what to do. I usually get told what to do. I’d like to try to direct something, to tell a story.”

The magazine also notes that Del Toro is intent on “pick[ing] up tips” from Martin Scorsese, as they start filming SILENCE together later this year. Del Toro even charmingly commented that, “every time I talk to him, it’s like the same as meeting with Yoda.” You probably can’t do much better than a mentorship at the hands of Master Marty.

No word yet on what type of films Del Toro would seek to helm. Anything you’d like to see him do?
