Do we need another deconstruction of superhero movies? James Gunn (SLITHER) thinks we do. SUPER was just announced as one of the features playing at this year’s stellar Toronto International Film Festival Midnight Madness line-up.

Here’s a new image of Rainn Wilson, a.k.a. Crimson Bolt (a.k.a. mentally unbalanced weirdo) from SUPER, getting the crimefighter word out by putting up fliers around the neighborhood – a much more grassroots approach than shining that pretentious bat signal into the night sky.

Wilson plays an average joe whose wife (Liv Tyler) trades him in for a drug-dealing smooth criminal named Jacques (Kevin Bacon). Ellen Page plays Libby – a maladjusted teen who joins up with Wilson’s Crimson Bolt to aid in taking down Jacques and crime in general. Genre icon Nathan Fillion (Firefly, SLITHER) also appears in the film, which will probably be worth the price of admission alone.

Any interest in seeing another edgy riff on the superhero genre? Or should you just go back and watch KICK-ASS, DEFENDOR, MYSTERY MEN, or THE SPECIALS – a story written by Gunn about the sixth or seventh best superhero team in the world?
