Today is a good day if you are two of the film world’s biggest filmmakers.

First up, Deadline is reporting that The Weinstein Company has nabbed up the rights to Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film, THE MASTER, and is now tapping it for a June start.

The film will star Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix, and is set to look at a story following “a man who returns after witnessing the horrors of WWII and tries to rediscover who he is in post-war America. He creates a belief system, something that catches on with other lost souls.” The original drafts of the screenplay closely followed the life of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, and while it does appear to have changed a tad bit, the film sounds very much like a subversive flick. I love the idea of looking at the creation of a religion, and through the eyes of PTA makes this thing almost impossible to wait for.

An equally anticipated project, Quentin Tarantino’s long-talked about slave spaghetti Western DJANGO UNCHAINED, has found foreign distribution already.

Deadline is reporting Sony has picked up the international rights to the film, which is particularly interesting to note since that is the home to Will Smith, the wannabe lead for this hotly anticipated film. That said, Smith is not one to keep his hands off of projects, so it will be interesting to see where this project goes. DJANGO will likely start come summer/fall of this year, and will hit thanks to the Weinstein Company here stateside.
