Bill Murray to play FDR
Yep, that's right, the President. Bill Murray has been tapped to play Franklin D. Roosevelt in the upcoming film adaptation of the British radio play entitled Hyde Park on the Hudson, and is to be directed by Roger Michell (MORNING GLORY).
Word is that this role will showcase the serious side of Mr. Murray, maybe more LOST IN TRANSLATION-esque? However, it will probably be a little more serious than that, because this particular story has to do with an incestuous love affair between the President and his distant cousin, Margaret Stuckley.
The film will be set in June 1939, when the British King and Queen visited Roosevelt at his upstate New York cottage, during the first ever visit to America by a member of the United Kingdom's monarchy. It will be a joint project between Focus Features and Film4, and will start shooting in July, with a script by Richard Nelson. The film will be produced by Kevin Loader (IN THE LOOP).
