Billy Crudup Toby Jones

Yesterday Gordon and The Whale told you all that the always beautiful Zooey Deschanel would be departing from her typical roles of quirky awkwardness and taking the leading lady spot in Bruce Beresford's THE ENCHANTRESS OF NUMBERS.

Today, the wonderful tweeters over at Production Weekly told us that Billy Crudup and Toby Jones are joining the project. My hopes are that Crudup will appear as naked and as blue as ever, but somehow I just don't see that happening. Crudup will most likely don crown and scepter to play William King, Ada Lovelace's (Deschanel's character) husband. Jones could be playing Charles Babbage, the mind behind the Analytical Machine.

Ada Lovelace was a 19th-century writer and groundbreaking mathematician. Her contributions to scientific computing were revolutionary, making her widely considered "the mother of computer programming." As noted before, this is a definite departure from Deschanel's usual body of work, but I don't think my faith is misplaced in her. Seeing Deschanel grow as an actress is pretty exciting. Period pieces have a knack of catching the actresses in their web, turning them into period actors. Either way, I'm excited for the project. Thoughts?
