BLIND DATE poster
I actually had not heard anything about this film until I saw this poster, which is a rarity, particularly considering how much I enjoy the work of both Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson. And that Variety quote? "You'll laugh, you'll cry...a joy to watch." I am sold. So what's the story with BLIND DATE?
According to the project's IMDb page, the film stars Tucci (who also co-wrote and directed) and Clarkson as "a married couple [who] has suffered a tragedy, and now the only way they can now relate to one another is by meeting as different characters through a series of personal ads." This is essentially a revisionist take on the classic jam "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)," but probably with more tears (and less snark).
BLIND DATE is also a remake of the 1996 Dutch film of the same name from the late Theo van Gogh. Van Gogh was not only the great-great-grandson of Theo van Gogh (brother of Vincent), he was a controversial filmmaker who was shot and killed in November of 2004, supposedly in response to his film SUBMISSION: PART 1. His original BLIND DATE was significantly less controversial.
Interestingly enough, the film is from 2007; it played at 2007's Cannes and 2008's Sundance film festivals. And though its USA release date is listed as today (September 18) and the poster hit the interwebs this afternoon, I could not find it playing anywhere. Suddenly, that sparkling Variety quote looks quite lonely.

Do you think this will ever be in a theater near you? Would you see it if it was?
