Blu-ray Rating: 8/10

If you're looking for a review of the film, check out Kate's HERE, this review is all about the features.

Shane Acker's 9 is a cool, impressive showcase of moody and incredibly well-done animation that makes 9 one fine looking Blu-ray. The Blu-ray also offers several features that should engage those enchanted by the animation and style of 9, and a few other nice goodies like the short the film that is the basis for 9.

The Look of 9 features those involved in the film talking about the distinct look of 9, including those who created the world talking about their influences stylistically. It's cool to hear about the creation of the world and characters of 9, as well as many different people's take these aspects to the film.

The Acting Out and On Tour with Shane Acker features gives us a peek at the various work that go into creating a film like 9. The On Tour extra shows us the various technical departments, like animation, effects, lighting, and editing. You begin to get an idea of how elaborate and complex of a process it is to make an animated film, giving you a greater appreciation of 9. Acting Out has a similar effect of making you realize massive work that is all a part of the project, showing us how the animators create the characters various actions and traits we see in 9.

The 9 Blu-ray also does nice of paying tribute to the film's roots. You get to watch the 11 minute short that inspired 9. It's a very cool feature that is a lot of fun to watch, as you notice all the elements from the short that are still present in the feature.
The 9 - The Long and the Short of it is littered with interesting tidbits about how 9 went from a short to becoming a feature-length film. It also contains several of those involved in 9 including voice actors, Elijah Wood and Jennifer Connelly, and producers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of NIGHT WATCH, DAY WATCH, and WANTED), discussing the short and their appreciation for it.

Deleted scenes are another feature that appears on the Blu-ray. These scenes are not fully animated yet, as they are sketches that feature voice acting. It's neat to watch these scenes in a more basic stage than the rest of the film, and most of them are pretty cool scenes anyway.

Director Shane Acker, animation director Joe Ksander, head of story Ryan O'Loughlin, and editor Nick Kenway are appear on a commentary track for 9. These four men all had major parts in making the film and it is very cool to hear them discuss 9 together.

9 is a great-looking Blu-ray that is accompanied by many quality features that should not let down those intrigued and fascinated by 9.
