Blu-ray Review: THE HANGOVER (EXTREME EDITION)
Release Date: October 12, 2010
Official Site: www.warnerblu.com
Ratings: Film - 4/5, Tech specs - 3/5, Packaging and extras - 2/5, Overall - 2.5/5
Movie: One of the better comedies of 2009. The sequel is currently shooting scheduled for release in 2011.
Tech Specs: Great picture quality, solid sound. Wouldn’t necessarily be the litmus test for the overall technical quality of a modern film.
Packaging and extras: This has the exact same disc as the original release, right down to the trailers that precede the film. The collectible booklet is a nice addition to a collection of movie memorabilia, but not amazing. There is a 5 track soundtrack sampler included.
Overall: This may seem like a low score, but this rating is based solely on the fact that the original release has all the same content as this one, and there are no new features added, just some collectible extras.
If you’ve never bought THE HANGOVER on Blu-Ray, you might still have a decision to make. On the one hand, the Extreme Edition includes a soundtrack sampler, and a booklet of pictures from the movie. But the original Blu-Ray is the exact same disc, so you wouldn’t miss out on any content. That being said, the original does include one of those digital copy discs, so if you like having those to play on your mobile device or laptop, then my recommendation would be the original Blu-Ray release.
From "Old School" director Todd Phillips comes a comedy about a bachelor party gone very, very wrong. Two days before his wedding, Doug (JUSTIN BARTHA) drives to Las Vegas with his best buddies Phil and Stu (BRADLEY COOPER and ED HELMS) and his future brother-in-law Alan (ZACH GALIFIANAKIS), for a blow-out bachelor party they vow they'll never forget. But when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning with pounding headaches, they can't remember a thing. Their luxury hotel suite is beyond trashed and the groom is nowhere to be found. With no clue about what happened and little time to spare, the trio must attempt to retrace their bad decisions from the night before in order to figure out where things went wrong in the hopes of finding Doug and getting him back to L.A. in time for his wedding. But the more they begin to uncover, the more they realize just how much trouble they're really in.
This was one of the surprise hits of 2009, and for fans of the movie who happened to miss out on the original release of the Blu-Ray, this is definitely the version to get. It’s got most of the same extras as the original release, but this time it also features a collectible booklet complete with pictures from the infamous missing camera in the movie. One thing to note, if you’ve never seen THE HANGOVER and you do purchase this version, do not by any means look at the booklet first, as it will certainly spoil some of the better elements and gags of the film.

This Blu-Ray comes packed in a standard two-disc case, along with the collectible booklet, packed overall inside a cardboard sleeve. It’s an impressive enough looking package, although the graphic logo of the film has changed a little bit for this Blu-Ray release. Images below.
