Brad Pitt and Darren Aronofsky finally teaming up for THE TIGER?

Brad Pitt and Darren Aronofsky have a long history despite never working on a film together. Pitt was originally going to play Hugh Jackman's role in THE FOUNTAIN, but backed out before shooting began. He was also going to star in THE FIGHTER, but both he and Aronofsky left that one as well. Now, it looks as though the two might work together. However, it's probably not in the capacity we're expecting.

Focus Features sent out a press release this morning that detailed their plans for their upcoming adaptation of the non-fiction book, The Tiger. Apparently, both Brad Pitt and Darren Aronofsky are signed on to produce. Brad Pitt's Plan B Films will produce along side Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures. However, the press release simply states that a director hasn't been signed yet.

I believe that Aronofsky could still end up directing and Pitt could end up cast as the lead. Aronofsky was both producer and director on THE WRESTLER and Pitt has been eyeing his films for a while now. Plus, the character and plot seems to fit each.

Here's a synopsis, courtesy of Focus Features:

Human development is encroaching on the tigers' habitat -- and one tiger turns on the intruders. With townspeople being tracked and hunted with an almost supernatural power, a conservationist game warden must face down the tiger. It is a fight that only one of them can win.

Traditionally, Aronofsky's films feature the lead character in an epic battle with himself. That being said, a few metaphors here and there mean he's right at home. However, the screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga is quite familiar with the idea of man vs. beast. He's the fantastic writer behind AMORES PERROS, which should be obvious if you can translate the Spanish title.

I'm sold. This looks to be the A-Team of film professionals. Aronofsky is a damn fine director who has yet to go wrong in my eyes. We'll see how his work as producer translates.
