Brad Pitt is headed to New Orleans for COGAN’S TRADE; who else will soon follow?
When it comes to writer/director Andrew Dominik’s follow up film to 2007′s THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD, the what, the where, and the when have been figured out. It is the who(m) that is leading to so many intriguing rumors.
Dominik will reportedly begin filming COGAN’S TRADE (based on George V. Higgin’s novel) in New Orleans in March. It had been widely suspected that Brad Pitt, who starred in JESSE JAMES, was going to attach himself to the project and those suspicions have been confirmed according to /Film. It is also believed that another JESSE JAMES alumnus, Casey Affleck, is close to signing on. After Pitt and Affleck, there is a “Who’s Who” list of actors whose names are rumored to be attached to the project including Javier Bardem, Bill Murray, Josh Brolin, Sam Rockwell (who also appeared in JESSE JAMES), Mark Ruffalo, and Zoe Saldana.
A brief synopsis explains that the movie tells the story of Jackie Cogan, a “professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game under protection of the mob.” Dominik has shown he is adept at portraying tough enforcers with the Jesse James character, as well as the title character of his 2000 film, CHOPPER.
I am sure I am in the minority, but the acquisition that would excite me most would not be any of the actors listed above, but rather if the Australian filmmaker could get his fellow countryman, Nick Cave, to return to do the soundtrack as he did for JESSE JAMES. It is a universal truism that any film Nick cave writes, appears in, or makes original music for is fantastic (e.g. JESSE JAMES, THE PROPOSITION, WINGS OF DESIRE).
