Bradley Cooper to star in THE CROW?

Well, this is coming out of left field.

Just a few days after it was announced that director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo would be taking on the reins of the upcoming remake of Alex Proyas’ cult classic, THE CROW, he may have found himself an actor to star.

THR is reporting that Bradley Cooper is currently in talks to star in the film, based on the indie comic created by James O’Barr. The story follows a “rock musician who is murdered while trying to save his fiancée from thugs. He is resurrected by supernatural forces and seeks revenge.”

Originally played by the late Brandon Lee, the role is definitely an interesting one for Cooper, who has been attached to various tentpole franchises, particularly the likes of things like GREEN LANTERN. The actor is one of the brightest we have today, at least box office-wise (LIMITLESS notwithstanding), and is far from the grungy, emo-like face that this character has ultimately become.

Overall, this may not be a brilliant piece of casting, but it is definitely not one that I had expected, so count me interested.

Please someones stop the remakes. Not that I dislike them all but some shouldn’t be done. Why not move the story forward?

I’ve recovered after my initial reaction of “BWHAHHAHAHA.”

I think Cooper is a terrible pick. Just not right at all. However, I do like him, and I am positive that, should he land this role, he will give it 110%. It will still be the wrong dude to give 110%, though. I was really hoping that Fresnadillo would pick a fresher, more unknown talent for the role – someone who could really use it as a career touchstone. Even if Cooper does not ultimately play Eric, it’s now clear that he’s the sort of actor they are looking for – not someone new and unproven, and that is real shame here.

I agree in many ways. I’d have loved to have seen someone like Ben Foster take on the role? Someone known, but who hasn’t had the shot at a project like this. That said, it’s SUCH a random name, that I’m actually really excited to see what the hell the guy can do with this project. That’s where my optimism comes from.
