Brian De Palma to helm PASSION
While it’s been a while since we’ve last seen the name Brian De Palma attached to any film, let alone one worth its weight in celluloid, Variety is reporting that the former may change relatively soon, with the latter hopefully following along with it.
The outlet is reporting that De Palma will be returning with PASSION, a remake of the French psychodrama, CRIME D’AMOUR, aka LOVE CRIME.
The film is being backed by the Paris-based SBS Productions, who were also behind the original film, which was described as a “tale of power-plays and seduction leading to murder in the world of executive skullduggery.” The original starred Kristin Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier.
PASSION is set to go in front of cameras in August, and will allegedly be set in the UK, with filming taking place in either Cologne or Berlin.
Personally, I love the idea of De Palma getting back to what he admittedly has said is his combination of “eroticism, suspense, mystery and murder,” that made him such an interesting filmmaker in the first place. I’m not a huge fan of De Palma at this stage in his career, but hopefully this will be a step in the right direction for a really compelling narrative filmmaker.
