Bryan Cranston

Another day, another bit of ARGO casting news.

THR is reporting that Bryan Cranston is currently in talks to be the next member of the cast for Ben Affleck’s next directorial effort, ARGO. He’ll join Affleck himself, Alan Arkin, and John Goodman in the film, which will follow the story of the 1979 Tehran hostage situation, where a CIA group posed as Hollywood filmmakers to free a group of hostages following the Iranian Revolution.

The film sounds like a mixture of tones, blending the darker, dramatic hostage narrative with what sounds like an entertaining film-within-a-film storyline, and is quite a change of pace for Affleck. He’s far and away one of Hollywood’s most sought-after filmmakers, having been connected to such films as MAN OF STEAL and GANGSTER SQUAD, so this should be quite a project to look forward to.

Personally, I found both GONE BABY GONE and THE TOWN to be absolutely wonderful pieces of filmmaking, so hopes are definitely high for this one. Then you look at this cast and you wonder how in the hell this thing could go wrong.
