Bryan Singer to direct X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Looks like all the people that were rumored to direct the next X-Men movie has just been X'd out. The AVATAR premiere is going on right now, and while on the "blue" carpet, Bryan Singer announced that he will be directing the next X-MEN, called X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.

According to Flick Chart, who broke the news via Twitter, this will be an ORIGINS film, which I'm guessing means there will be a titular character added in a some point. I'm hoping for Gambit, with Van Damme playing him, but probably not.

You know what all of this means, right? X-Men fans all over can rejoice that the next X-Men movie has a very slim chance of sucking.

I'm wondering which version of FIRST CLASS this will be. I remember a couple years ago Josh Schwartz was attached to write, wasn't Zak Penn attached once too?

All I know is that I would watch a JS X-MEN movie in a second.

Well I'm guessing it'll be the start of the X-men. That means no Wolverine. The original consisted of Prof. X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast (not blue and hairy), Angel, and Iceman. We've already seen all of these characters, and Iceman and Angel are depicted as being very young in the movies they've already been in, so I don't know how they're going to pull this off.

They can easily brand this as separate material from the movie. Its a movie about people with super human powers, I don't think audiences will care if they essentially reboot the franchise. I wouldn't.

I think Superman was just fine, but Valkyrie took a little too liberal approach to history for my tastes, and ruined it for me (I'm sure I wouldn't have liked it either way, it was pretty meh to begin with).

So I'm glad the series is going back with Singer, and I hope they use the more interesting characters. They didn't do much with some of the characters they have shown such as Angel, so it'd be nice to see him back.
