With Cannes set to kick start this week (side note: make to bookmark THIS page for Gordon And The Whale’s complete Cannes coverage), a tiny, but insanely enticing trailer for one of the festival’s most anticipated films has finally hit.

The Greek site Flix has the first teaser for the upcoming Pedro Almodovar film, THE SKIN I LIVE IN, (via The Playlist) and it’s both short, and absolutely striking.

Based on the Thierry Jonque novel, Tarantula, and follows a surgeon who goes out looking for revenge on a man who raped his daughter.  Starring Antonio Banderas, the film sees Almodovar reteaming with composer Alberto Iglesias, DP Jose Luis Alcaine and editor Jose Salcedo, and also a cast including Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes, Jan Cornet, Roberto Alamo, Blanca Suárez, Eduard Fernández, José Luis Gómez, Bárbara Lennie, Susi Sánchez, Fernando Cayo and Teresa Manresa.

With a November release set for the film, this is definitely one of 2011’s biggest awards contenders, and is far and away one of the Cannes Film Festival’s most anticipated features.  Almodovar is an absolute auteur, and one of today’s most gifted filmmakers so the idea of him dealing with this type of material is so damn intriguing.  This is definitely one can’t miss project.
