Carey Mulligan talks MY FAIR LADY
After recently guesting on a track from the great band, Belle & Sebastian, it looks like the focus has once again shifted to the long talked-about John Madden-led remake of MY FAIR LADY when talking about Carey Mulligan.
Through various rumors and then subsequent denials, the actress, according to an interview with Worst Previews, has finally confirmed that “it if happens,” she would “love to do it.” Here’s what she had to say:
"I read the script and the script is incredible. Emma Thompson wrote it. It's telling the story again, in another way and not trying to sort of copy anything and not trying to take away anything from that version of it. It's just telling it in a new era to a new generation of people."
Now, while I’m not the biggest fan of John Madden’s work, particularly the rather mediocre SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, I can’t help but have the utmost interest in this project. Mulligan is a shockingly gifted vocalist, and with great acting chops, this could finally be the film musical that we’ve all been waiting for to revive the genre. It’s a genre that I love, and with MY FAIR LADY being one of the best, I can’t help but be cautious when it comes to remaking it, but if it does have to be done, I would have to think that very few groups of people could do it better.
What do you think?
