Carey Mulligan Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I’d be hard pressed to think of a hotter name in cinema right now than the stunning and gifted Carey Mulligan.

After breaking through with the hit film, AN EDUCATION, the actress is a frontrunner to pick up the biggest role in Hollywood, the lead in the upcoming film, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, and will next be seen in films like NEVER LET ME GO, Sam Mendes’ ON CHESIL BEACH, and even WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS.

To add to her busy slate, Pajiba is reporting that the actress will take to the horror genre for a new film with Screen Gems, called CRADLE WILL FALL. The film is based on a spec script by Jack Olsen, and follows a surrogate mom who decides that the baby, and even the father, should rightfully be hers, making it her mission to take both for herself.

Personally, while this may sound a bit like a fail moment for the young actress, with names like Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, and Adrien Brody being attached to the roles of the mother and father, this may be the small budget genre film that the studio has so desperately wanted to make. While the hopes are not too high for this one, particularly knowing that names like Gary Fleder (THE EXPRESS) and Mark Pellington (HENRY POOLE IS HERE) are being looked at to helm the film, there must be some reason why a gifted young thespian like Mulligan is looking into a film like this.

You know why this is a shocking story, though? Because according to a follow-up by Movieline, it is. Mulligan's reps say that this story is complete and utter nonsense, and as it should be. However, I'm not quite sure that this is a dead rumor, as there has to be some reason why her name came up. More often than not, actors have their reps simply deny a story until they sign a deal, so there may be much more on this story over the next few days. More on this as it comes.
