Casting: Blake Lively joins HICK; three join indie drama REFUGE
While much of the film world is now focused on the recently announced addition of Shane Black to the IRON MAN 3 director’s chair (the definition of a cinematic win in the eyes of this writer, by the way), there are a few casting stories that have fallen to the side.
First, while talking on the red carpet at the Elle Style Awards (hat tip to The Playlist), Blake Lively revealed that she will be co-starring in the upcoming indie drama, HICK, starring Chloe Moretz: “It’s completely different [than “Gossip Girl”], I play a mother of a thirteen year-old…a southern woman who is also a meth addict.”
Check out more about HICK, plus casting news for REFUGE, after the break.
The film is based off of an Andrea Portes novel of the same name, and had been rumored to be attached to actress Kirsten Dunst, who has apparently passed on the role. The film is also penned by Portes, and follows a 13-year-old girl who goes on the run after fleeing her home and neglectful parents. She is taken in by a woman, Glenda, and their relationship grows. Lively's role has not been confirmed at this point. However, it doesn’t really matter, as Lively has proven in her recent roles, like her turn in THE TOWN, that she’s much more than a strikingly pretty face. Count me in.
Finally, THR has revealed that Brian Geraghty, Logan Huffman, and Madeleine Martin have joined the upcoming film, REFUGE, starring Krysten Ritter. The film is written and directed by Jessica Goldberg, and follows “a young woman who must take care of her younger siblings after her parents abandon them.” Great cast and an interesting premise? What more do you need?
