Casting: Bryan Cranston out of GANGSTER SQUAD; Jessica Chastain in Guillermo del Toro-produced MAMA
Sometimes too much of a good thing is still just a bit too much.
That’s the problem in the face of beloved Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, who thought either he’d have more time or that he’d be able to clone himself, as he not only double booked himself, but is now feeling the result of that.
GANGSTER SQUAD director Ruben Fleischer revealed to BlackBook (via The Playlist) that he doesn’t “think he’s (Cranston) going to be able to be in the movie. He got offered ARGO, and we were hoping he would be able to do ARGO and then do our film, but it doesn’t look that way. Everyone wants a piece of Bryan now. He’s the belle of the ball.”
While it is a bit upsetting that he’ll be leaving GANGSTER SQUAD, that film’s cast is still impeccable, including the likes of Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, and Anthony Mackie. You win some, you lose some.
In other casting news, Twitch is reporting that Jessica Chastain, star of TREE OF LIFE, will join the cast of MAMA, the Guillermo del Toro-produced remake of a short 2008 film from director Andres Muschietti. Backed by Universal, the film will follow two girls who are asked by a woman to bring back her dead children. The film sounds really intriguing, and with Chastain’s career bursting at the seams, this is just one step in what will likely be a huge career for this up and coming actress.
