Casting news: Henry Cavill joins THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY, Paul Giamatti to BLOW TOP, Josh Hutcherson goes to DETENTION
It’s Friday, which means two things: new releases, and apparently a boatload of casting news.
According to Heat Vision, director Mabrouk El Mechri, best known as the man behind the breathtaking film JCVD, has found a lead for his next film, THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY, and his name is Henry Cavill.
The outlet is reporting that The Tudors star Cavill has joined the film, which “centers on a cocky young Wall Street trader who reluctantly vacations with his family in Spain. When his family is kidnapped, he is thrust into a government conspiracy and must unravel his father’s darkest secret in order to save his loved ones.” Awesome. The film definitely has a great pedigree, as it’s penned by The Wire writer Scott Wiper, so while I was already keeping an eye on this one, come September, when it starts production, this will be one that I will keep a look out for, as it sounds like a really fantastic project.
Paul Giamatti will star in an upcoming HBO film, K BLOWS TOP, which follows former Russian leader Nikita Khrushchev, and his famous trip to the states in 1959. Perfect casting? Hell yes. The film will be written by Paul Bernbaum, who wrote HOLLYWOODLAND, and will see Tom Hanks as a producer. Can I just see this thing already? I don’t think I can wait any more.
Finally, Variety is reporting that THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT star Josh Hutcherson will be co-starring in the upcoming Dane Cook led horror/comedy, DETENTION, which follows a group of teens dealing with their last year of high school, and will be directed by TORQUE director, Joseph Kahn. It’s good to know the name of a film that I plan on ignoring. Makes it easier to really not care about it.
