From beloved documentary to maligned found-footage horror franchise. Talk about a step in a weird direction for the directing duo of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. The two directors behind last year’s smash hit, CATFISH, have been tapped (according to Bloody Disgusting) to helm the upcoming third entry in the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise.

Producers Oren Peli and Jason Blum will be re-joining PARANOMRAL ACTIVITY 2 writer Christopher B. Landon on PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3, which will be the next film from Peli and Blum, following their insanely successful and absolutely wonderful INSIDIOUS.

At this point, plot details surrounding the project are nowhere to be seen, but this is definitely a mixed bag of news. While I’m definitely interested in seeing what these two can do with something like PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3, I’m not quite sure that it’s the right move for the pair. They are talented filmmakers (despite some issues one can take with their ethical decisions, particularly on CATFISH, which is a topic for a whole different day), so they add a lot of depth to the project, depth that will hopefully be made good on come the final product.
