Catherine Hardwicke to direct Noomi Rapace in Swedish boxing biopic
Catherine Hardwicke (TWILIGHT) has signed on to direct the as-yet-untitled biopic of Swedish boxer Bo “Bosse” Högberg, Screen Daily has reported.
Hardwicke, whose latest directorial effect, RED RIDING HOOD,opened to less-than-stellar reviews earlier this year, teased the project a few weeks ago when she was quoted as saying, "I have another project that looks like it’s going to go first. It’s in Sweden and Germany, and it’s really wild. I can’t quite talk about it, but we’ll probably do the announcement in a couple of weeks." It marks a return to low-key indie fair for Hardwicke, who has spent the past few years directing big-budget tentpole films for some of the bigger Hollywood studios. So, if all goes according to plan, this should be more in line with her earlier films, like THIRTEEN and LORDS OF DOGTOWN.
Noomi Rapace (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO) and her ex-husband Ola Rapace (TOGETHER) are attached to star as Anita Lindblom and Bo Högberg, with the film tracking their turbulent romance and his successful boxing career.
Filming is expected to start in the fall, with a late 2012 release date on the horizon.
Rapace will next be seen in the SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS and is currently in the midst of shooting Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS, alongside Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, and Guy Pearce.
