Catherine Zeta-Jones has signed on to join Bruce Willis and Rebecca Hall in the Stephen Frears-directed comedy-drama LAY THE FAVORITE.

According to Deadline, Zeta-Jones will play a the wife of Willis, a gambler who becomes involved with a young woman (Hall) as he figures out how to gain an edge on the Vegas sports book system. In addition, Pathe, who have come on board as a replacement for Focus Features, will co-finance the film with Random House Films.

Focus Features, who had already set the cast, backed out of the joint-venture when the film came in at a higher-than-expected $20 million budget.

Pathe will distribute LAY THE FAVORITE in the UK and France, and then sell the international rights to other foreign distribution companies.

Production will take place in New Orleans.
