With the studio slowly gaining its footing with respectable action fair like FASTER and the really entertaining THE MECHANIC, it appears as though CBS films is looking to get into the thriller game as well.

Deadline is reporting that the studio has bought the rights to a pitch from THE GRUDGE director Takashi Shimizu, entitled FLIGHT 75. The film is described as “a claustrophobic thriller set on a transpacific airliner where the passengers encounter what appears to be a supernatural force.”

A writer will be brought on soon to pen the project, and is one of the cavalcade of films that the studio has picked up, following GAMBIT, the Ed Zwick AMERICAN ASSASSIN film, and the upcoming Jonathan Levine picture, LEGEND.

Personally, while I’m not a huge fan of THE GRUDGE, I do love what CBS Films is doing with their slate, particularly post-MECHANIC. Not a perfect film, that Jason Statham picture is a really taut and action-packed flick with a lot of really good touches. Hopefully we’ll be saying similar things about this one.
