UPDATE: Christian Bale to sling the guns in THE DARK TOWER? Nope
UPDATE: Deadline is reporting that Javier Bardem has been offered the role. More on this as it rises.
The New York Post is reporting that, following his Golden Globe win and subsequent Oscar nomination for THE FIGHTER, Christian Bale is high on the list to sling the guns of Roland Deschain in Ron Howard's big screen adaptation of the Stephen King novel and graphic novel series The Dark Tower.
Should there be any truth to what is essentially a rumor, Bale would be trading the cape for the duster, going right from one comic book-based franchise into another. It's also important to note that the production would have to wait till after Bale was done with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, since Howard has stated that screenwriter Akiva Goldsman hasn't yet finished his draft of the script.
So, who knows? This could be the case of someone mentioned Christian Bale to someone else in the same sentence as "The Dark Tower." Or there could be some validity to it. If so, Bale is in the company of Javier Bardem and Viggo Mortensen, who have previously been mentioned as potential Deschains.
It shouldn't too long till we hear something solid, as producer Brian Grazer told MTV at the Golden Globes that they would be making the casting announcement within the week (despite the fact that a few weeks prior Howard also told MTV that they were moving along with a "tremendous amount of momentum" but were still in the early stages of casting). Well, it's been a week and here we are adding names to the list instead of them being narrowed down to one.
But should that one be Christian Bale, would you be happy with him in the role? Or does Mortensen or Bardem better suit the character?
