Christina Hendricks would be Nicolas Winding Refn’s perfect WONDER WOMAN

Talk about the marrying of dreams for comic book nerds, indie film geeks, and just fans of beautiful women in general! WONDER WOMAN has long been a passion project director Nicolas Winding Refn (BRONSON) would love to lasso. So, should Warner Bros. give him the chance, who would his lady of choice be to don the star-spangled pantaloons?

None other than the woman who takes the term "voluptuous" to a whole new level (and size); Christina Hendricks (Mad Men)! Refn revealed during the screening of his film DRIVE at the Los Angeles Film Fest that "if I ever get to do it, she's going to be it." She being his DRIVE co-star, Miss Hendricks. However, our own Kate Erbland was on the scene and said that the comment seemed to be a tossed-off bit of dream-casting from the droll Refn. Crowd-pleasing is something directors know how to do and do well...especially when it comes to anything comic book-related...it probably doesn't help that we make it so easy for them by eating it up out of the palm of their hand (present company included).

I'm not necessarily doubting the honesty or integrity of Refn's comments, though. The director has indeed expressed interest in this project for quite some time, going back to a 2010 Movieline interview where he stated the very reason he did DRIVE was to get "the ball rolling within the system" for WW, which he would apply the "Nolan approach" given the chance at the source material.

The actress has also made mention of the character and property in the past, as she stated on Rachel Ray's showlast year, "I heard that rumor too – I don’t know where it got started but I love it!" She went on to say, "I've been wanting to wear that outfit my whole life...I had Underoos — I had Wonder Woman Underoos."

This almost seems to good to be true...

Strange that the only appeal of her playing WW would be to see that body in the outfit. And, I would love to see that. But the movie would inevitably suck.

I don’t know if it’s necessarily the *only* appeal. Definitely the biggest (wink wink) with fanboys but I wouldn’t count her out for the character. She could pack the punch with the attitude and strength we’ve all seen with her performance on “Mad Men.” Also, she’s a bit of a hot topic right now in respects of more curvaceous women like herself breaking down the stereotype of what’s “sexy” in Hollywood these days. Because of this reason, it cool be very cool to see her play a strong and sexy heroine like WW. And I definitely wouldn’t count Refn out in the slightest. He’s exactly the type of director I want to see behind the camera on a comic book film. It’s no surprise that he cites Nolan’s approach to Batman several times in that Movieline interview. I’ve often thought Refn is a little Nolanesque and would be a great director to take over the Batman franchise after Nolan’s done.
