Clean-up: Sofia Coppola not working with Kirsten Dunst on SECRET DOOR

Someone is very proud of themselves tonight, as they just played a lot of people.

This past weekend, we, among many other websites throughout the film world ran a story from a Twitter account posing as the account for Francis Ford Coppola’s company, American Zoetrope. The account stated that Coppola’s daughter, Sofia Coppola, was set to re-team with her MARIE ANTOINETTE and VIRGIN SUICIDES star, Kirsten Dunst, on a new film entitled SECRET DOOR.

Well, that couldn’t be any less true if it was slapped with a giant “fake” sign across the face.

Drew McWeeny of HitFix first dug this up, after noticing that the Twitter account had gone offline. Over the span of the next few hours, enough time for the false account to change its name a few times, only to be capped off the posting of a link to a false screenplay, the story was found to be utterly false.

As the writer of the original story for this site, I’d like to say thank you to Mr. McWeeny for clearing this story up, and apologize for the shoddy reporting. We weren’t nearly the only website running this story, so for all intents and purposes, whoever is behind this story fooled us all.

Nothing has found to be utterly false yet, just fyi. Just cause Drew is old and probably right, doesn’t mean that’s factually right yet. Don’t always bow down.

The project doesn’t exist. A representative for Dunst has released a statement saying this is false.
