Coen Bros. TRUE GRIT remake gets release date
The Coen brothers have leaked their Christmas gift to the world today. Their next film, TRUE GRIT, an adaptation of the Charles Portis novel of the same name, will see a release on December 25, 2010. I know with it barely being mid-January, it is a hard to accept that we will have to wait till the end of the year to see TRUE GRIT, but patience is a virtue and the Coen brothers are worth the wait, are they not?
You may recall that this particular book has been adapted for the screen once before, in a 1969. That film starred John Wayne and Glen Campbell. The original film tells the story of a U.S. Marshal and a Texas Ranger who are trying to find a murderer who has killed the father of their 14 year old companion. John Wayne won an Academy Award for his performance as U.S. Marshal Roger Cogburn.
Golden Globe winner Jeff Bridges is attached to play Roger Cogburn. Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are both vying for a part in the film as well. Back in December, it was announced that an open casting for the part of the 14 year old girl was being held. That open casting ended today.
