The story of Harry Houdini was just asking to be made into a film, and Hollywood has certain;y noticed that, with several projects on the legendary magician currently in development. One in particular is being led by Columbia, and is expected to be more grounded in reality than some of the others, which will take a more supernatural angle.

The film now has a writer on board - Scott Frank, who previously wrote MINORITY REPORT will be that man.

Frank will be writing a Houdini story that follows Harry as he tries to expose a beautiful spiritualist who he believes to be a fraud. He becomes obsessed with her and starts believing she might be the real deal. The story sounds like it might be a little twisty, which makes the hiring of Frank even better.

I've always been a fan of magic, even toying around with it myself (poorly). It's always incredible whenever someone is extremely talented at it, and arguably there was no one better than Harry Houdini. It will be great to see what they do with his life in film format.

I AM LEGEND and WATER FOR ELEPHANTS director Francis Lawrence is on board to direct.
