Comic-Con 2008 Trailer Wrap-up

Another Comic-Con has come and gone and, like many of you, I watched all the action from the comfort of my computer chair, courtesy of the Firefox refresh button. That's right, once again, car payments, school and the real world took priority over dishing out a couple of thousand bucks to enjoy Comic-Con in person. Luckily for us, the internet exists, and we can enjoy the exclusive clips and premier movie trailer without spending the money. From UP to TR2N to X-MEN ORIGINS, there's plenty to keep you busy speculating, obsessing and geeking out for the next year! Check out what Comic-Con had to offer after the jump.
1.) X-MEN ORIGIN: WOLVERINE
I'm a bit of a blacksheep among my friends for not liking X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, so you can understand my hesitation when I read that a Wolverine movie was in the works. The quality of the trailer isn't great (sorry) and my worries haven't been erased, but we do get hints of Wolverine the bad-ass, which is exactly what i want to see from a movie about one of the most intriguing X-Men characters. Look for it in a theater near you on May 1, 2009
2.) UP
I don't really think this needs much of an explanation. Its Pixar! The studio that can do no wrong (or at least very few wrongs). Like past Pixar teasers, we don't get a clip from the movie or a long plot explanation. Instead we get a small visual taste of what's to come. Pixar storytellers have a rare gift of being able to express more in a minute than some movies can in an hour. I still don't know much about the story, but that's the way i want it. I want to be surprised and Pixar never fails. UP opens May 29, 2009.
3.) TR2N
TRON is such an iconic movie. So how do you update a movie with such a definite retro image to fit our visual CGI lust? Its tough, but the trailer gives me some hope. The races don't look 1980's anymore, but look still manage to remain true to the original. The music is also a nice touch. I love the audience's reaction to the crash and to Jeff Bridges is priceless. I can't wait to see it on the big screen. Look for it in 2010.
4.) PUNISHER: WAR ZONE
I never saw the first, poorly reviewed THE PUNISHER, but even i have to admit that this one looks like a bloody mess of fun. The way I see it, if a movie is going to have gory action, it might as well have plenty! Warning: this is a redband trailer. Look for the movie December 5, 2008.
5.) QUARANTINE
Taking a page from the CLOVERFIELD book on suspense, QUARANTINE seems to have the ingredients of a truly freighting movie: blood, zombies, government conspiracies, in-your-face handheld camera, and an extremely attractive leading lady. What do you think, more of the same? or a good Halloween date-movie? You can find out October 17, 2008. Warning: this is also a redband trailer.
So what do you think? Are you optimistic about these movies? Are there any trailers we missed? Let us know in the comments!
