With every franchise and their mother getting a reboot, remake or sequel as of late, one of the more interesting names not to really pop up has been Tarzan.

Pitch perfect for a fresh, new take, the character had a new franchise announced earlier this year over at WB, but since that announcement, the project has appeared to go stale. That is, until now.

Deadline is reporting that Craig Brewer (HUSTLE & FLOW, BLACK SNAKE MOAN, upcoming FOOTLOOSE remake) has been tapped to write their TARZAN franchise, which will feature three new films, with the writer hoping to have the shot to helm the first one.

Now, as a fan of both Brewer and the character, this is quite intriguing. I think they are a really interesting pair, one that could make something either quite special, or absolutely dreadful. As a whole, I don’t know if this franchise will hold much weight anymore, but it is one that I’m really hoping to see back on the big screen. Nothing like a good solid action/adventure flick.
