Creative team behind SPELLBOUND to do new DC Comics documentary
What comes to mind when you hear the letters DC?
Superman? Batman? The Green Lantern? Well, the team behind the great documentary SPELLBOUND are set to produce a documentary about the world renowned comic book company, which will be directed by Mac Carter.
Carter has previously worked on SPELLBOUND with director Jeffrey Blitz and producer Sean Welch, who will be producing this new documentary. Welch and Blitz recently spoke to Collider about this project, which is rumored to be hitting this year’s Comic-Con. Check out what the two had to say after the jump.
"DC Comics contacted us and asked if we would do this. Jeff and the director are comic book enthusiasts since they were kids and remain comic book enthusiasts. So yes, we have access to their archives, their material, their covers, their panels, the creatives and the executives in the DC world."
This sounds beyond interesting. Knowing that they will have access to archives (material, covers, panels, etc.) as well as creatives and executives is great source for what will hopefully be an insightful look into one of the world’s most influential graphic arts staples. They have had a long history of both grand periods of brilliance, launches of new labels (like Vertigo), and noted conflicts. It will be both interesting to see where they go with this, and if it’s beyond any of the talking head based documentaries that can be found on your run of the mill history channels. With the talked about Comic-Con date, I don’t know just how deep and extensive they can go, especially with the fact that DC asked them to do it, but it should be interesting nonetheless.
