Billed as "Cuba's First Horror Film," the awesomely-titled JUAN OF THE DEAD won the Lexus Audience Award at the Miami International Film Festival (the equally awesomely-acronymed MIFF). Alejandro Brugués’ film centers on a forty-something loserish-type (the aforementioned Juan, played by Alexis Diaz de Villegas) who figures out a way to make a killing ("Juan of the Dead, we kill your beloved ones”) during a revolutionary zombie takeover in Havana.

The world is officially crossing its collective fingers for a THE CUBAN IN THE WOODS follow-up. (Sorry, I can't help myself.)

“It’s a great honor for my film to have been chosen by the audience and that I was able to share this amazing moment with my family and friends,” Brugués said. “I love Miami and would like to thank the Festival for all its support.”

JUAN OF THE DEAD is set to open theatrically in Miami today before playing select cities and festivals including the upcoming  San Diego Latino Film Festival and the Hong Kong International Film Festival.
