Sometimes, Twitter can be a great place to find breaking news.

However, validity for those who do not have a “verified” Twitter account can be sketchy at best. So that is why, while this news may ultimately be quite exciting, it should be taken with a big grain of salt.

That said, going off of a rumor reported by /Film last week, director D.J. Caruso has apparently tweeted (and hat tip to The Film Stage for digging this sucker up), that “my deal just closed on PREACHER. Going back to the dark side and pretty f***ing pumped.”

PREACHER has been a long time coming, featuring names like Joe Carnahan and Sam Mendes attached to direct. The film is an adaptation of the beloved comic series done by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. It follows the story of Rev. Jesse Custer, a preacher who teams up with a vampire and a past flame to hunt down God himself.

Now, the project has obviously gone up against a lot of problems trying to make its way to the big screen based on that premise, but now it appears as though things are moving forward. Personally, I’m not too keen on Caruso being the one to take the film on (I still think Carnahan would have been a perfect man for the job), but it will definitely be interesting to see him return to something that will be a definite hard R project.
