monsters, inc 2 will be called monsters university

Talk about a quick turnaround.

Just a few days after being given an official title for the upcoming sequel to the beloved Pixar film, MONSTERS INC., the film has found itself a director. Coming Soon has revealed that MONSTERS UNIVERSITY will be helmed by director Dan Scanlon.

The film will follow Mike and Sully while they attend the University Of Fear, and their growing to be friends after a time as adversaries. With a 2012 release imminent, the film is definitely another interesting step for Pixar who, for the past couple of years (really starting with last year’s TOY STORY 3), have seemed hellbent on making franchises out of some of their more beloved films.

CARS 2 will hit later this year, and while there is the massively hyped film BRAVE set to give us an original narrative from the studio, it does seem like Pixar is going the route of other studios and focusing on franchises to make them money.

That said, this film does sound quite interesting, so unlike CARS 2, this one may not be the worst thing in the world.
