I’ll believe this when I see it, and honestly, I hope I one day do. Before saying anything, let me say that this is the epitome of a rumor, so take this with a massive grain of salt.

According to Superhero Hype, Guy Ritchie is looking into casting Daniel Day-Lewis in the role of Moriarty for his upcoming SHERLOCK HOLMES sequel. The role was originally rumored to be a spot for Brad Pitt to reteam with Ritchie, who directed him in SNATCH, but apparently that isn’t the route that he is wanting to go.

Moriarty does make a short little cameo in the first HOLMES film, but since no face was shown, the role hasn’t truly been cast yet.  Personally, there is no better way to do that than by casting the best actor alive, Day-Lewis, in the role.

Now, while I’d rather see him do smaller, more interesting films like THE BALLAD OF JACK AND ROSE, I can’t help but think that the actor would be able to really just let loose a la THERE WILL BE BLOOD, and for that, I want this to happen so bad.  Day-Lewis is really at his best when he’s allowed a longer leash, and here I think that he would be completely let loose, which is more exciting than anything I’ve heard in a really long time.

That said, this will most likely never happen. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ll be shocked if this past anything more than a dream rumor.
