Darren Aronofsky now in the running to direct WOLVERINE 2? Plus directing rumors on DEADPOOL and CLASH 2.
Deadline is reporting a wealth of rumors surrounding several major properties including WOLVERINE 2, DEADPOOL, and CLASH OF THE TITANS. The biggest of which being news that WOLVERINE's sequel could reteam Hugh Jackman with THE FOUNTAIN director Darren Aronofsky! Now before you lose your shit, know 3 things:
One, this is just a rumor. Two, Aronofsky's name has been attached to some high-profile projects like BATMAN and more recently ROBOCOP with no results (not saying this negates the possibility). Three, I already lost my shit for you.
Aronofsky's named has been thrown in the hat with David Slade (TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT) and Robert Schwentke (RED, FLIGHTPLAN) which we reported on last week. Slade was rumored to have the edge, even meeting with Jackman on the set of his latest REAL STEEL. Schwentke has reportedly dropped out of the running, and opted out of that same meeting. Considering that Jackman has final say on the hiring and his relationship with Aronofsky, I wonder if Slade is still in the lead. Or if Aronofsky is in fact even in the running.

As for the closely related DEADPOOL film, it seems it is coming under complications due to scheduling. Scheduling of both its proposed star Ryan Reynolds (who played the sarcastic, katana wielding antihero in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE) and proposed director Robert Rodriguez. Reynolds wants to do it, but may be dealing with a custody battlebetween the film and another comic book property, DC's GREEN LANTERN, as well as a busy schedule. Rodriguez also wants to do it but has a very full plate himself, between promoting MACHETE and SPY KIDS 4. Here's what the outspoken Rodriguez had to say "We haven't really gotten into the discussion, but they are trying to make a certain small window that's going to be tough because of Spy Kids," Rodriguez told Deadline. "If they push it back, it would be a lot better for me."
And for the CLASH OF THE TITANS sequel, Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are reportedly working away on a deal right now for director Jonathan Liebesman (the upcoming BATTLE: LOS ANGELES) to fill the place left by Louis Leterrier in order to meet a planned release for as early as spring of 2012. Leterrier will stay on as an executive producer with Sam Worthington set to return to star in a script from writer Greg Berlanti...who wrote? GREEN LANTERN!
Hollywood is like one big, reel life version of CRASH.
