David Byrne and Will Oldham contributing music for THIS MUST BE THE PLACE
Featuring a title ripped straight from the catalogue of iconic new wave group Talking Heads, that very bands mastermind has revealed that he’ll be providing music to the upcoming film, THIS MUST BE THE PLACE.
David Byrne recently spoke to TimeOut (via The Playlist), and said that he’ll be working with Will Oldham “on songs for a film by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino,” which stars Sean Penn and Frances MacDormand.
Following an aging rocker who begins hunting down Nazi criminals who tortured his father in a concentration camp, THIS MUST BE THE PLACE will see Penn taking on the role of the Robert Smith, Cure-looking lead, with Byrne taking on a cameo role in the film.
Personally, I love this news. I’m a huge fan of both Oldham and Byrne, with both of them set to bring a distinct flavor to this hotly anticipated follow up to Sorrentino’s beloved film, IL DIVO. I love the premise, and you really can’t go wrong with these two musicians being behind the film’s music. For a rock based film, you couldn’t ask for a better creative team.
