From WEDDING CRASHERS to King Arthur’s Court.

That is the apparent trajectory for director David Dobkin who, according to Deadline, has just signed on to helm a new project at WB, entitled ARTHUR & LANCELOT. Based on a spec from Dobkin himself, the film is set to be budgeted at a huge $90 million, and will be a “contemporary re-imagining” surrounding the stories of King Arthur and Lencelot.

Given the huge price tag, one would imagine that WB is set to bet the house on this film, meaning that either this is a great step forward for Dobkin, or just a reward for his next film, THE CHANGE-UP, which hits in a couple of months.

Personally, while I’m not a huge fan of Dobkin or much of his work (WEDDING CRASHERS and FRED CLAUS are horribly unfunny), I do have a soft spot for the world of King Arthur, and so I’m sold on this without a doubt. I think it is an insanely interesting and lively world, and one that is perfect for the big screen.
