David Fincher confirmed to remake THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
How strange, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO just opened in the U.S. (March 19th - limited) and it already has a remake in the works. Last week I was talking to my buddy Rubin over at Cinemalogue about this rumor and he was very sure it would happen with David Fincher director. He was right.
The Playlist has just confirmed that Fincher has ditched PAWN SACRIFICE and will take on THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. The award-winning Swedish language trilogy will be adapted into English language versions by Steve Zaillian, who previously wrote SCHINDLER'S LIST and AMERICAN GANGSTER. Sony will be backing the film with Scott Rudin producing and shooting is slated to begin in September or October. No cast has been announced and and that might take a while as Fincher is looking for an unknown actress to play the lead.
The Swedish films were based on Stieg Larsson's "Millennium Trilogy," and the first book follows a journalist and female hacker who get in way over their heads when trying to solve the disappearance of an heiress. The sequels, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE and THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS' NEST, will be releasing in the states this spring.
