David Fincher in talks to helm CLEOPATRA
Talk about coming out of nowhere.
With names like James Cameron and Paul Greengrass originally being sought after to helm a now long-gestating adaptation of the Stacy Schiff Cleopatra biography, Cleopatra: A Life, it appears as though Sony is going a wholly different route.
Deadline has revealed that Sony and Scott Rudin are in talks with David Fincher, that would see the director take the helm of the long-talked about project. Featuring a script by Brian Helgeland, the film will look at the many different sides of the iconic historical figure.
While Angelina Jolie still seems to be attached, there are a few questions surrounding this project. Fincher is knees deep into THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, and with two more GIRL novels out there in the ether, one would assume that Sony would want Fincher to come back for a sequel. So, depending on what is higher on Sony’s list of films to get out, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE may ultimately fall into wholly different hands.
At this point, however, it’s simply a lot of theorizing, so it remains to be seen as to what to truly expect. Personally, I love this news, just because this icon seems to be a figure that would work wonderfully within a Fincher feature.
