David Goyer to pen THE MAN OF STEEL

Well the proverbial bomb has dropped.

According to a scooper at Latino Review, Pinche Taco, it appears as though THE DARK KNIGHT co-scribe David Goyer will be penning the script for Warner Brother’s next take on the man in blue, Superman.

Here’s what their scooper had to say about the project:

  • Thomas Tull, the head of Legendary, got tired of all the discussion and decided chingate, let’s do it.  So he went to Goyer and Goyer had an idea that actually takes the movies back to the John Byrne incarnation.  Modern.  Believable.  FUN!  So Tull got Goyer hired.
  • The film will not be called Superman and will be called THE MAN OF STEEL.
  • Brandon Routh will not star in the film.
  • Nic Cage will NOT star in the fllm (lol)
  • Bryan Singer is not expected to direct.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, however, with the recent news that Chris Nolan was going to “play Godfather” to the upcoming film, it’s not something that comes completely out of nowhere.  This news, if indeed true, would also give a lot more depth to that very rumor, which if also true, makes this project one that I would be really excited to check out.  Goyer has obviously worked with Nolan before on THE DARK KNIGHT and BATMAN BEGINS, so having both Goyer working on the script, and Nolan overseeing the project in some fashion, makes this the perfect situation to for this project, one that has been in limbo since SUPERMAN RETURNS was released.  Let us just hope he stays as the writer, as Goyer is not the most skilled man behind the camera.  Just look at THE UNBORN for an example of his skill as a filmmaker.

Also, on a personal geek level, the report also says that Brainiac would be a villain in the film, so if that also is true, I will be making my way to get in line for this film as soon as it’s confirmed.

All in all, this is starting to shape up to be one hell of a Superman film, and hopefully the MAN OF STEEL film that we all have been waiting for.

Projectgenesis, it just seems like people would rather remember ONLY the bad projects a director/writer/actor, ect does then the good ones. Yeah, Goyer has had some real stinkers, but he’s had MORE hits. And most of his stinkers are ones he’s directed himself. I keep saying he’s an excellent screen writer but a horrible director. As long as he’s not directing this movie, then this is great news. He’s a very huge comic nerd and he knows his shit when it comes to the world of comics and comic adaptations.
