David O. Russell’s THE FIGHTER finally finds a release date
If there is one month that is more stuffed with anticipated Oscar bait than anything, it’s December. And now, according to Box Office Mojo (via The Playlist), we have one more member to the party.
The outlet is reporting that a rumor that has been around since May, has finally been confirmed, and that the upcoming David O. Russell film, THE FIGHTER, is set to see the light of day on December 10; going up against the third film in the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA franchise, VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER. Currently, it’s the only film going up against the big budget Disney release, so not only will it give us fans of darker, more interesting and less obnoxious releases something to chew on, but it lets some room open in a month that sees a ton of films opening.
The month currently holds films like TRUE GRIT from the brothers Coen, Sofia Coppola’s SOMEWHERE, and the hotly talked about Derek Cianfrance film, BLUE VALENTINE. While I’m personally interested in all three of those films far more than FIGHTER, I am excited to see something other than a gaudy effects movie like DAWN TREADER, will be opening on that date.
The film also stars Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, so this is definitely one to watch out for.
