Academy Award nominee David Strathairn has landed the role of William Seward, Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of State, in Dreamworks Pictures' Abraham Lincoln biopic LINCOLN, Deadline has discovered.

Strathairn will star opposite Daniel Day-Lewis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson, John Hawkes, and a host of other actors and actresses.

LINCOLN, based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's best-selling book Team of Rivals, will tell the story of how the sixteenth President of the United States guided the North to victory during the Civil War.

Steven Spielberg, who is prepping THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN and WAR HORSE for release later this year, will direct the film. LINCOLN is expected to be released next year, in time for the highly competitive awards season.
