De Niro says Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN will happen eventually
As you may or may not have heard, Robert De Niro is pretty much set to appear in a new mobster film directed by Martin Scorsese, entitled THE IRISHMAN. Instead of telling you what the plot is, I'll just let De Niro let you know that he's very confident the film will get made. “Yeah, I’m planning on it, absolutely,” reveals De Niro. “Well, this time I’ll say it, I’ve said it before, it's a movie based on a book called, I've Heard You Paint Houses, it's about a guy who says, and I believe [Charles Brandt, the author of] the book—he’s passed away now—but he confessed that he killed [Jimmy] Hoffa and also Joe Gallo. And so I’m gonna play that character. Joe Pesci is gonna be in it, Al Pacino is gonna be in it and Marty’s going to direct it.”
Your ticket is already bought, right? Famously, the phrase "I've heard you paint houses" was the first thing Jimmy Hoffa ever said to Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran, which is code for killing someone.
“I’m hoping it happens. We’re really working towards making it happen,” says De Niro. We do too.
Scorsese's next film after HUGO CABRET still looks to be SILENCE, a film that will hopefully star Daniel Day-Lewis, Benicio Del Toro and Gael Garcia Bernal. With a cast like that, it's not so disappointing that THE IRISHMAN probably won't be Scorsese's next film.
