Debra Granik boards HBO pilot for ‘American High Life’

Since her last film, WINTER’S BONE, hit theaters, people have been wondering what we’ll be seeing from director Debra Granik. She ditched her oddly awesome sounding PIPPI LONGSTOCKINGS project, and will not only take on a film entitled RULE OF THE BONE, but now according to Thompson On Hollywood, she’ll be making a splash on the small screen as well.

The outlet reports that she’ll helm the pilot for HBO’s American High Life, which will follow “a young career woman to her economically depressed small home town in the midwest.” The show will also be produced by Granik, and is looking to try and get grenlit after only getting a pilot order.

Personally, I love this news. I think Granik is one of the most intriguing directors around, and while she should be given a chance to take on something much bigger, this sounds like a project she could knock out in her sleep.  HBO is again proving they are the place to go to work on your craft, so hopefully we’ll get to see this on the small screen relatively soon.
