While it’s been in the works for quite some time now, it appears as though the upcoming Gabriel Muccino film, PLAYING THE FIELD, has finally found some momentum.

Blackfilm has revealed that Dennis Quaid will be joining the film, which follows a man who attempts to coach his estranged son’s soccer team, but ultimately finds love in the arms of multiple soccer moms. The lead will be played by Gerard Butler, with Jessica Biel taking on the role of Butler’s ex-wife. Quaid will play a fellow coach.

Muccino’s involvement in the film is definitely interesting, as his previous films like SEVEN POUNDS and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS aren’t quite the comedies that this one sounds like, and with a script from SO I MARRIED AN AXE MURDERER scribe Robbie Fox, this could be quite an interesting film.

The premise sounds compelling enough, and the cast is definitely interesting. I’m not totally sold on Butler as an actor, but this could definitely change that. Quaid is a great addition, so hopefully this one can prove to be quite a surprise.
