It’s about damn time we get more information on this hotly anticipated film.

Thanks to some newly released press materials (via The Playlist), we now know a little bit more about Lars Von Trier’s upcoming film, MELANCHOLIA, and I must say, it sounds just as amazing as we all could have expected. Check out the synopsis, after the jump.

The film has been described as a “psychological disaster movie, and a beautiful film about the end of the world,” further saying that while the film is a personal film for him, he doesn’t know exactly why he’s making it.  He does “have a plan,” however, and “no one will ever find out what that plan is.”

Apparently, the film is “a story about two sisters as a planet,” with Kirsten Dunst’s character getting married, “but only for a short while,” with her hubby being Alexander Skarsgaard, her sister Charlotte Gainsbourg, her father John Hurt, and Skarsgaard’s best man, his pops, Stellan.

Personally, I can’t wait to check this thing out.  I’ve been a big fan of Von Trier’s work, including the underrated and misunderstood film, ANTICHRIST, one that I don’t think got the respect that it really should have.  Sure, he’s a very antagonizing filmmaker, but when the final cut of his work gets shown it’s always top notch both visually and narratively.  Sure, Anthony Dod Mantle won’t be shooting the film, with Manuel Alberto Claro replacing him, but this is one film I really can’t wait to check out.

Hopefully we will be hearing much more about this film as it gets deeper into production.
